4年前、私にシェイプを教えてくれた師匠、ディック・ブルーワーがこの世を去りました。

最後に会えたのは2019年、7年前。
そして今年、先生の命日にカウアイにいることができました。

奥様のシェリーと共に先生を偲び、
思い出を語り合えたことは、
私たちにとってかけがえのない時間でした。
さらに今回、先生が長年使っていたシェイプルームで
ボードを削る機会にも恵まれました。
シェイプをしながら思い返したのは、
これまで先生から教わった数々の言葉と技術。
その一つひとつを胸に刻みながら、
感謝の気持ちを込めてフォームと向き合いました。

最後はハナレイ桟橋から花を海へ。
カウアイの海に向かって、
「ありがとう」を伝えることができた気がします。

受け継いだものを次の世代へ繋いでいくこと。
それが今の私たちにできる恩返しなのかもしれません。

4 years ago, we lost our mentor, Dick Brewer,
the man who taught me how to shape surfboards.

The last time I saw him was 7 years ago in 2019.
This year, I had the opportunity to be in Kauai on the anniversary of his passing.
Spending time with Sherry, sharing stories and remembering sensei Mr.Brewer, was something truly special.
I was also fortunate enough to shape boards in the very shaping room where sensei spent countless hours refining his craft.

As I worked, I found myself reflecting on everything he taught me. His techniques, his philosophy, and the standards he set for craftsmanship.
Every pass of the shaping felt like a small tribute to the lessons he left behind.

To close the day, we gathered at Hanalei Pier and offered flowers to the ocean.
Being able to thank him from the island he called home meant more than words can express.

The best way we can honor his legacy is to continue shaping, continue learning, and continue passing on what he shared with us.
